There is a canker worm eating very deep in the society today and the biggest surprise is how much the society seems to be at peace with it. As the devil appealed to Eve’s eyes in the beginning (which led to the initial fall of man), so he is doing in this generation and the world, like Eve, is being deceived to believe we are made wiser.

Genesis 3:4-7 – Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

 If we could look again we would see the fleeting and shallow nature of all that the devil offers (in the guise of material possessions and accomplishments) which we desperately grasp for all the days of our short lives here on Earth. If only in this world we have hope, we are the most miserable of men.

One weakness some persons suffer today is low self-esteem. They have gradually lost confidence in their true nature and are in continuous lust for more of the superficial things around to define them. People have steadily evolved with the material world, so much that they can barely distinguish between its illusion and reality. They no longer see anything wrong with things that were rather awkward before now. It is the devil’s strategy to derail mankind. This world has too many attractive things to offer; there is no denying- affluence, fashion, fame, pleasure, power and more. One man is willing to cheat, lie or even kill to lay his hands on money. Another man will do anything to get a position. Another lady will do just anything to get the latest outfit while some others are all out for fun. Their reason for illicit sex, drinking parties, smoking, hanging out with wild friends and all is simply for fun. People are so enmeshed in the mess of this world that they see it as the regular way of life. Therefore, any one that opposes this way of life is seen as a sadist and unsociable person. Same way a mad man believes he is sane and every other person that sees him otherwise is not in their right mind.

Harmless Adjustments

The heartbreaking part of this evil is that it has steadily crept into Christendom. ‘Christians’ (as they believe they are) now adapt these perversions in subtle ways. They are deceived by their thoughts that regard the little changes as insignificant and harmless adjustments. We claim that as long as we are in the world we must absorb its changes. We see those who oppose our notions as extremists.

Perhaps my biggest worry is our spiritual leaders. New generation Ministers embrace these wild lifestyles and even promote them. How then do you guide your followers from doing worse? Ladies dress half naked to Church and you see ministers hugging them after service. They definitely have something to say if you object. Let me tell you the implication of our so called ‘harmless adjustments’.

Frogs and water

Water is the natural habitat for frogs. It is told that the easy way to kill frogs is not by dropping them into hot water. If you do so, they jump out immediately. Instead, you place them in water with room temperature to make them feel at home. Then you gradually introduce heat. While they are in oblivion of the change in the temperature around them, they are gradually weakened and by the time the water is too hot for comfort, they are already too weak to jump out and they meet their end.

Christians! Parents! Youth! Leaders (spiritual and political)! This is a wake-up call for you. Those little bad behaviors you excuse are the same ones that will destroy you or your child or follower tomorrow if you don’t stop it now. Think of it: your greed, quest for power, fame, latest fashion trend or luxury is to what end? If you get it all, what next? You live with them forever? Do they guarantee your health to enjoy them? Do they secure your position in the afterlife where age is immaterial? Believe it brother, you don’t want to gamble with the afterlife. It is too long to bear in pain. Live a good life so you don’t lose your soul altogether.

As for every leader or parent, always remember that you shall be held accountable by your maker for every soul you mislead because those souls belong to God, not you.
