YOUR PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Yesterday was the last day of the faith challenge week which we started a week ago on Facebook. It was a personal revival process in our journey of faith with God. In all, one thing always remain important; your personal relationship with God.
Your personal relationship with God is the most important relationship you could ever nurture. Every other thing you do in life is meant to evolve around the relationship. That makes it your first priority in life. “Why attach so much importance to it?” you may wonder. It is simply because our existence depends on Him.
1 Corinthians 8:6 – Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
You should make God your first priority in life if you are yet to do so.
How to make God your first priority
It is as simple as always giving the relationship the first consideration before every action you take in life.
For instance, if you are married and your marriage is of uttermost importance to you, you tend to always check your actions to be sure it doesn’t hurt your marriage before you do them.
That’s the simple way to prioritize your relationship with God. Ask yourself questions before you say or do anything (even something you may call irrelevant).
“Will this utterance displease God?”
“Will this outfit speak badly of my relationship with God?”
“Will God be proud of what I’m about to do?”
“I don’t feel like it, but I just have to push myself for God’s sake.”
If you love someone, you won’t derive any joy in hurting them, neither would you be comfortable in deliberately offending them and apologizing over and over again. That is what having a personal relationship with God is really about. A personal relationship with God doesn’t go stale. You keep it warm everyday through communication. Communication is both ways: you talk to God and you listen to Him from His word through meditation.
Make it a habit to appreciate His presence in your life everyday through praises and thanksgiving in prayer. Talk to him about your needs and that of others you care about, then listen to Him as well; as He directs you on what to do through meditation on the scriptures. There, you have your personal relationship with God.
